The Inn at Blackstone Blackstone, Virginia

After overwhelming support from the city, we are proud to announce our newest project- We are converting the Historic Blackstone College for girls in the Blackstone Historic District of Virginia into a premier, unique Boutique Hotel. The building is known as the Virginia United Methodist Assembly Center, established in 1894 as a College for Girls featuring a teacher-training school with enrollment close to 500 persons. Thanks to Andrew Carnegie, the steel magnate, the main school expanded with classrooms, dormitories, an indoor pool, gymnasium, and an auditorium until several fires broke out that nearly destroyed the entire structure. The current building designed in 1922, was rebuilt and studies resumed. In 1943, the college suspended operations for the remaining duration of World War II. The school buildings were converted into apartments for the servicemen and their families stationed at nearby Fort Pickett. Classes resumed in 1945, but dwindling enrollment and the Korean War forced the college to close in 1950. In 1955, the site was acquired by the United Methodist Church who converted the facility into a conference center and retreat until it closed in May 2016. This is a significant addition to Kalyan Hospitality, not least because it is the first Boutique Hotel added to the portfolio, but it fulfills an important ambition for owners Nick Patel & Raj Patel who have always cultivated a strong understanding and respect for the communities in which they build. “We are honored at the opportunity to develop a facility that will embrace its history while delivering world-class accommodations here in Blackstone”, said owner Nick Patel. The future hotel will continue to maintain the structural identity and preserve many of the original components of the 1922 building. The historic auditorium and gymnasium will be preserved!
